Approved ForSase 2002/08/~S,: C1A.-RDP83B008200400130004-6 11 September 1969 MEMORANDUM FOR: Chief, Executive and Planning Division SUBJECT Significant Accomplishments - FY 1969 The following information is submitted as the consolidated significant accomplishments of the Security Research Staff during the fiscal year 1969: 1. During the reporting period the Security Research Staff continued to serve as the counterintelligence arm of the Office of Security in developing and implementing defensive programs to protect the integrity of the Agency, its operations, its installations and its employees by assault by hostile intelligence services and elements. ,/ Z. During the fiscal year 1969 this Staff opened 2, 427 security counterintelligence cases and closed 2, 827. In addition, 1, 127 special investigations (an intensive category of counterintel- ligence research) were processed. In fulfilling its security- counterintelligence function, this Staff reviewed 17, 082 security files, 3,106 intelligence reports and 3, 043 communications from outside the Agency for counterintelligence research data. As an extension of the research activity, this Staff conducted 347 inter- views and debriefings. In support of a continuing counterintelligence training requirement, 27 lectures on such varied topics as Soviet intelligence apparatus, Communism and Subversion in the United States, the Internal Threat, Hostile Entrapment Procedures, etc. , were presented. Counterintelligence liaison and counterintelligence source contacts were 1, 481 and 697 respectively. Special counter- intelligence source checks totalled 3, 747 and the Staff responded to 1, 204 outside inquiries from both Agency components and other government agencies. Review and action were accomplished on 10, 077 news media items. A special counterintelligence review of I reports was also accomplished during this period. Continuing dissemination of the Staffs research product resulted in the preparation of 3, 705 memoranda.
