In the 1946-47 production years, 265 aGricultural'and 10 industrial dis-
tillin~ plants produced 97F,299 hectoliters of alcohol.
During the same period, there were six breweries in operation, which pro-
duced 370,698 hectoliters of beer. e~pproximately 97F percent of the beer, or
348,860 hectoliters, was produced by four Budapest breweries.

Hungary had 12 sugar refineries in operation in 1946-47, which processed
4,45^,000 quintals of sugar beets, producing 685,051 quintals of raw sugar.
' Tobacco Production
- In 1`y47, 38,370 groxrrs were engaged in tobacco nrodurt.t?^ in 1,57?
.+~?.iitidv, uu a total area oY 26,124 cadastral yokes. In 1946, the Hungarian
Treasury bought 8,^10 quintals of fine medium grade tobacco and 121,393 quintals
of coarse domestic tobacco from the producers. In the same year, the govern-
ment operated ten tobacco-me.nufacturing plants.
