NORTH KOREA CONFERS ACADEMIC TITLES ON 23 SCIENTISTS
At its seventh meeting held on 15 September 1952, the State Academic De-
greesConferment Committee, composed of Chairman Kim Tu-pong and the follow-
ing members: Hong Myong-hui, Paek Nam-un, Chong Chun-t'aek, Kye Ung-sang and
Han Sol-ya., conferred academic titles on 21 5i 7 North Korean scientists.
This brings the total number of the scientists who have received academic
degrees from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to 10 doctors, 7 masters,
29 professors, and 55 associate professors.
The degree of doctor of engineering has been conferred on Yi Sung-ki
engineer at the Hungnam Research Laboratory.

Yi Sung-ki; who has been an engineer at the Hungnam Research Laboratory
since 1950, has published the following dissertations and books: Studies of
Current Leakage in Natural High Polymers; Chemical Reactions in High Polymers
Containing Admixture; Nitrous Cellulose Ra Rayon; Puli inil Alkol (Phonetic,
PolyalcoholY Fibres; Pisukinsu (Phonetic) Rayon; and Handbook on.Rayon.
Kim Si-ch'ang, chief lecturer in surgery at P'yongyanC Medical College
since September 1950, has had a long teaching career and has been a successful
practitioner of modern medicine. He has published a dissertation, Blood
Circulation at the Time of Intestinal Obstruction, and other writings.
Kim Yang-ha, chief lecturer in natural science at P'yong?ang Medical
College, has been teaching at this college since 1950 and has produced many
kinds of drugs. He has published two dissertations, Vitamin A, B, E, and
Nutrition and Alkin (Phonetic) Acid in Rice; and a book, Nutrition Look.
Pak Tong-yol, chief lecturer in anatomy at Pyongyang Medical College,
has published an essay on the experiments of hormone evolution in injured
skin, and has written a book, Hwangt'o (Phonetic) Hormone. He discovered a
process by which biological drugs could be manufactured.
To Pang-sop, dean of the Pharmacology Department, Pyongyang Medical
College, has collected over 50,000 species of plants and has discovered 15 new
species. His published dissertations include Investigation of Raw Materials
for the People's Economy, and others.
Yim Kuk-che, chief lecturer in physics at Hungnam Technical College, and
a former dean of Kim Il-song University and ex-president of Pyongyang Tech-
nical College, has been testing graphite products. His publications incl;:'a:
Periodic Change in Magnetism; and Theoretical Calculation of Air Resistance'
Separator; and a book, Thermodynamics.
