Morning Meeting of 22 June 1966
The DCI noted that he had tentatively agreed to appear on
"Meet the Press" on 17 July. (See Action Item 1)
R. J. Smith noted that briefing books are being prepared for
the NSC meeting tomorrow on Southwest Africa. He reported that
ORR had been doing a study on the possible effects of economic
sanctions, and this will be distributed to the Principals prior to the
NSC meeting.
Godfrey noted the relative quiet in Saigon. He noted that the
Agency was not receiving State cables on the question of U. S.
prisoners in North Vietnam. (See Action Item 3)
Bannerman reported that the Agency had supplied another
secretary per the reauest of the White House_ He also noted that
The DCI complimented deSilva on his first year report of his
staff's activity.
Houston reported that efforts are underway to set up meetings
with various Congressmen early this afternoon.

has not as yet been recovered, but that security measures have been
taken. He also noted that the CORONA launch vas successful.25X1
The DDCI reported that he had a conversation with Ambassador
Beale from Jamaica yesterday in which the latter had highlighted the
deteriorating state of the economy in Jamaica. (See Action Item 4)
He also noted an AP story on the current dispute in the Senate regarding
supervision of CIA. He requested that all hands note that this is
clearly a Senate fight over how they supervise the Agency; it is not a
fight about the Agency itself.
Bross noted that budget reviews are currently underway in

The DCI noted the story in the New York Times today which
apparently was not accurate as to his reply to Senator Fulbright's
question concerning Fulbright Scholars. (See Action Item 5)
ACTIONS
1. The DCI requested that a task force be formed which would
review the matter of what questions the DCI might be asked on "Meet
the Press", and prepare appropriate responses. (The DDCI requested
that this group be chaired by E. H. Knoche to include Commander
Moran, Col. Grogan, and others as deemed appropriate. )
3. The DCI requested that Ben Read be contacted on the matter
of State traffic on U. S. prisoners in North Vietnam. (DDI in the course
of the day)
4. DDCI requested that) of OCI contact Ambassador 25X1
Beale to review the internal situation in Jamaica. (OCI in the course
of the day. )
5. The DCI requested that the testimony be reviewed as to his
answer to Senator Fulbright re the Fulbright Scholars, and suggested
that if the answer is negative, the New York Times be so informed.
