1. Free Europe - Current Problems Seminar #l, to begin 19 February,
is shaping up most encouragingly. Tentative enrollment is 16
GS-14's and above, which is It. more than our originally proposed
maximum. Our approaches are continuing, to obtain an outstanding
guest seminar leader for 5 and 6 March on the first theme, the
impact of nuclear weap s state on Free Europe. Following a --~

present prospect is'[ an Executive Director
of the Council on Foreign Relations, who is a close friend of both
the DCI and the DD/I. Livingston Merchant, State's Assistant
Secretary for European Affairs, has already accepted as one of
two speakers for the second theme, the implications of European
integration steps for that area. The first of two short organi-
zational meetings with the participants will be held within a week
for discussion of outside readings, selection of student panel
topics, and housekeeping matters.

has a prospective enrollment of over 25. A fuller introduction
taking a page out of the syllabus of

3. In view of a current show of interest, LAS,/AT plans to re-offer
its Regional Survey on East Asia in April. Course content will
