FROM: Congressional Affairs
SUBJECT: Status of Proposed Hearings on Security and
Counterintelligence.
1. John Elliff, SSCI staff, informed me today that the
decision to hold hearings on security and counterintelligence
has still not been approved by Chairman Boren. Elliff advised
that Members are still interested but remain uncertain whether
time will permit given the target date for adjournment of 7
October. He promised to alert me as soon as the decision is
made.
2. Elliff said that he and other staffers wanted to be
briefed by and Robert Lamb, State Department,
on the implementation of the Webster-Shultz agreement.
According to Elliff, Lamb had recently called to express an
interest in speaking with the SSCI staff this week or next.
Elliff was inclined to delay meeting with Lamb until the State
engineering studies are completed and to have any meeting with
Lamb attended by I agreed. Elliff indicated that
he would seek to arrange a staff briefing by Lamb and
September.
