TRILATERAL TRADE
Regarding trilateral trade involving embargoed commodities shipped from countries of
Western Europe to those behind the iron curtain, we have the following additional infor-
mation:
The following amounts of Belgian steel sheets arrived in the port of Antwerp for re-
shipment to Rostok: 825,000 kilograms supplied by LaRochette of Liege; 390,000 kilograms
supplied by Ougree-Marie of Ougree. 1952) 25X1 C

France. Commodity specifications: 100 centimeters x 30 centimeters; weight, including

Antwerp or Rotterdam. Source promises to obtain more information on this subject.
Abst intends to leave PSAL and become a partner of Pierre Van Hoof. The latter is the
principal partner of the Belgo-Continentale firm at 82 Pelicanstraat in Antwerp. This is a
small dispatching firm which serves as a front for illegal exports of industrial diamonds to
the countries of the Soviet Bloc. It is expected that the Belgo-Continentale agency will
become a joint stock company in February or, at the latest, in March 1952. The transaction
will be completed on the following premise: Czechoslovakia and Hungary need industrial diamonds.
Van Hoof can supply them provided that the agency will replace PSAL as intermediary.
Abst thinks that the recall of Kolodziej took place as a result of the intrigue and
intervention of Van Hoof at the Hague. Kolodziej had been on friendly terms with Lieberman
of PSAL. - 1952) 25X1 C
