MISSION:
The GZI (Glowny Zarzad Informacji-Chief Directorate of Information) is res-
ponsible for maintaining the security of the Polish Armed Forces.
FUNCTION:
The detection and elimination of foreign agents within the Polish Armed Forces.
ACTIVITIES ABROAD:
. The GZI does not engage in any intelligence operations abroad. In the early
post-war period, 0-2 was given the responsibility for maintaining the security of
military attaches abroad and GZI has no external function. A GZI man who is in an
embassy or other installation is on detached serve with 0-2 or Department VII of
the MBP (Ministry of Public Security). A GZI man can become a military attache, but
he then comes under the control of 0-2.
CHAIN OF COMMAND:
The GZI is directly responsible to Marshal Rokossowski. The GZI used to be,
subordinated to the Vice Minister of the Ministry of National Defense (MON), but
this was changed after the arrest of Spychalski.

The GZI is divided into three military districts (okregi) in its field organign-
tion. the establishment of three military districts was 50X1 -HUM
carried out in December 1953,
these new 'districts ?are as follows:

District I: The following voivodships: Warsaw, Bialystok, Lublin,
Kielce, Lodz, Krakowvand Rzeszow.
District II: The following voivodships: Bydgoszcz, Olsztyn, Gdansk,
Szczecin, Koszalinland Poznan.
District III: Wroclaw voivodship and the Silesian area.
The GZI prison is located on Mica Chalubinskiego in Warsaw.
