The characteristics of vessels shown in the earlier report were assembled on the basis of individual vessels, and sometimes it became necessary to choose between differing sources. In many cases, there are minor differences between the character- istics shown in the earlier report and those shown in the Register. These discrepancies are very slight, however, the differences between the two figures for total gross register tonnage and between those for total deadweight tonnage being less than 1 percent. Consequently, no conclusions in the earlier report are affected. In most cases where the deadweight tonnages shown in the earlier repert differ from those shown in the Register, the schedules of the Polish Ocean Lines and the Polish Steamship Company show deadweight tonnages which either agree with those shown in the earlier report or which are closer to them than to those shown in the Register. The Foreword of the Register contains the following reservation: The Polski Rejestr Statkow in publishing the Register of ZWaritim27 Ships wishes to state that the information given in the Register was taken from sources which are re- garded as reliable, but is not in a position to guarantee the accuracy of all the information contained in the Regis- ter of ZFlaritimg7 Ships. Nevertheless, it is believed that the data given in the Register on individual vessels may be preferable to those in the earlier re- port for general reference. The format of Table 1** has been arranged to conform with Table 17, Appendix A, p. 97, of the earlier report. Although the Foreword of the Register is dated December 1957, some deletions from and additions to the Polish fleet occurred too late in 1957 to be incorporated in the * All material in this supplement is derived from the Polish Rejestr 1957-58: statki zeglugi morskiej (Register of Maritime Ships, 1957-58) published by the Polski Rejestr Statkow (Polish Register of Ships), Gdansk L195g. ** Table 1 follows on p. 3.
