Abstracting of I lenclosure was started this month and is proceeding as routine. Request for full translation of but one enclosure has resulted from circulation of the abstracts. 2. Rush processing of press exploitation was modified. An "A-Today" priority, ensuring 214-hour dissemination, is applied only in relation to quality or value of the report. All other press carries a regular A priority, 3. The following special-type reports were prepared on a top priority basis: a. "List of Foreign Language Serial Publications Received and Screened by Foreign Documents Division" b, "FDD Capabilities ..." short title) Other noteworthy publications disseminated: a. "Military Topographical Study of the Amur Oblast Area," Summary No. 43 b. "Selected Technical Terms from German-Russian Dictionary on Rocket Technics," Translation No. 300 co "Soviet Catalog of Metal-Cutting Tools, Part Two," Translation No. 301 25X1 A d. "Counterrevolutionary Activities in China," 5. Thel as taken an experimental interest in questions raised during operation of FDD's Xerox equipment. This equipment aided in preparation of 174 pages of reports during April. 6. FDD has been participating, with other collection organiza- tions of CIA, in conferences of "Task Force 1," sponsored by RR, relative to preparation of long-range requirements. 7. On FDD request, General Services Division, Management, has under consideration the problem of how better to meet demands for supplemental distribution of FDD publications. 8. FDD and CIA Library will confer on allocation of subscrip- tions and future policy in procurement problems after Department of State's "Analysis of Soviet Serial Receipts for 1951" failed to show reallocation for 60 titles required by FDD but allocated to other agencies. However, five of these periodicals were received in a 127-publication shipment nd eight issues of the 60 were uncovered in the Library of Congress through the new screening arrangement effected by FDD. Several other of the 60 were found among 600 publications received via Army. 25X1A in which FDD translated from English into five foreign languages. 10.
