1. Collaboration between the Yugoslav and Soviet naval forces is
flourishing. There is an office in the Undersecretariat of
Defense - Navy at Belgrade under the personal responsibility 50X1-HUM
of Admiral Mate Jerkovic.
2. This collaboration allegedly exists principally in the following
fields:
a. Soviet technical counsel on new Yugoslav naval construction;
supply of navigation equipment for Yugoslav submarines; two
submarines are reportedly under construction at Pula.
b. Collaboration on river boat construction. The Soviets, in
the near future, will supply Yugoslavia with three hydrofoil
boats which are to be assigned to passenger service between
Belgrade and Prague on the Danube. The boats are said to be
built in such a way that they can be armed and converted to
military service. They will allegedly travel at 60 km/hour
and carry more than 60 passengers plus freight.
Yugoslavia is reportedly to build in the Apatin2Novi Sad,
and "Begej" (Zrenjanin) shipyards river naval craft for
Hungary, Rumania, and Bulgaria. In 1965, 36 vessels of the
Yugoslav "RRB" ( naval river vessel) class
are scheduled to be produced.

c. Collaboration in the information sector
Specialists in collecting information are being assigned to
Yugoslav merchant vessels, to obtain photographs of ports and
of foreign industrial plants. These people are said to be
chosen after a rigorous selection. A course of specialized
study for these officers has reportedly been set up in
Belgrade with Yugoslav and Russian instructors. The initial
results of the collaboration in this field have reportedly
already been more than satisfactory.
Among other items, it was agreed that vessels of the Atlantic
fishing fleet currently under construction in Yugoslavia would
be equipped with the most modern radio and communications

d. Supply of radar installations of Soviet production. The supply
of such eqUipment is supposed to be initiated within several
months, and.it is reportedly envisaged that they, will be in-
stalled on higher elevations in the interior of Yugoslavia
as well as along the Dalmatian coast, Agreements on the supply
of spare parts are said to have been concluded between the
Soviets and the RR (Radio and Roentgen) Factory, Nis (Serbia),
which in the future is to produce Soviet type radars-which

e. Yugoslav maritime bases are not _to be ceded to the Soviets,/
A mutual advisory board is said to have been set up for their
maintenance and defense. Special agreements are said to have
been concluded on the Boka Kotorska where
modernization and consolidation of defenses is reportedly5ox1 -HUM
under *ay, and on Pula, The PlOce base is to be converted
into a logistical support base. In this respect, work to ex-
pand the- facilities necessary to accommodate a larger number
of naval vessels and to strengthen the defense of the base
itself,will be initiated.

La collaborazione tra le marine militari jugoslava e sovietica
in pieno sviluppo; un apposito Ufficio in funzione presso ii
Sottosegretariato Difesa-Marina a Belgrado sotto la personale re-
sponsabilita delltAmmiraglio JERKOVIC Mate. Non sono noti i nomi-
nativi delle persone addette a tale Ufficio.
Tale collaborazione consisterebbe principalmente in:
- consulenza tecnica sovietica per le nuove costruzioni navali ju-
goslave; fornitura di installazioni per la navigaziepe dei sommer-
gibili jugoslavi; a Pola sarebbe in atto la costruzione di due som-
mergibili.
- collaborazione nelle costruziomi fluviali. I savietici, in un pros-
simo futuro, forniranno alla Jugoslavia tre aliscafi che verranno
adibiti al trasporto passeggeri tra Belgrado e Prahovol sul Dana-
bio. I natanti sarebbero stati costruiti in modo da poter venire
armati ed adibiti al servizio militare. La loro velocita sarebbe
di 60 Km. orari e potrebbero trasportare oltre 60 passeggeri e
merci.
La Jugoslavia costruirebbe nei van i cantieri navali di Apatin,
Novi Sad, e "Begej" di Zrenjanin, naviglimmilitare fluviale per

personale verrebbe prescelto dopo una rigorosa selezione. A Bel-
grado sarebbe stato istitulto un corso per la specializzaziane di
tale personale i cui istruttori sarebbero jugoslavi e russi. I
primi risultati della collaborazione in questo campo avrebbero gia
dato frutti pi? che soddisfacenti.
Et stato tra ltaltro convenuto che i natanti per la pesca atlanct
tica, attualmente in costruzione in dugoslavia, verranno dotati di
apparecchiature modernissime per il servizim radio e informativo
in genere, tutte di produzione russa.

che poi dovrebbe esportare anche in Algeria, Indonesia, Paesi
africani che di recente harm raggiunto l'indipendenza, nonche
in Bulgaria e Romania.
- Le basi marittime jugoslave non verrebbero cedute ai sovietici.
Sarebbe stata convenuta una reciproca consulenza per il loro man-
tenimento e la loro difesa. Accordi particoIari sarebbero gvvenu-
ti per le Bocche di Cattaro, dove sarebbero in corso lavori di
aggiornamento e consolidamento delIe difese, e di Pola. La base
di Ploce sarebbe stata destinata ad essere trasformata in base di
appoggio logistico. A tale riguardo verranno iniziatit lavori
per il potenziamento dei servizi necessari per poter.accogliere
un numero maggiore di unit?avali militari e per potenziare le
difese della base stessa.
