5. the local meat supply was augmented by an abundance of 50X1 -H U M
wild. ducks which-were plentiful during the months of May and. June. Kolkhoz
crops were molested. by ratlike animals called ausliki. (Siberian marmots)
and. a bounty of 'from 142 to 50 kopeks wag offered for each su.slik pelt. _
Wolves, \wild boar? and. poisonous snakes were also prevalent in the Dzhanybek
,area. Horses and camels were used. as pink animas in areas Which were
inaccessible to trucks.
6. Every lakhoz bad sweet water wells which supplied. water for bus= consump-
tion and other wells of salty, bitter water for the stock. 50X1-HUM
an MN ?trine building in Dzhanyhek. (See sketch of the
tknin of Dzhanybek, point 22, page 7 ) This unpainted. adobe building was
approximately four afters high and had. a 45" degree angle pitched roof. The
/MS conOirtd, contained storehouses, garages, and 'shops, all of which were
one-storh-flat-roofed adobe structures except for one new, brick-constructed.,
repair shop which had a pitched. roof. (See sketch of the MTS 50X1-HUM
grounds in Dzhanybek, page a .) the machinery in this
repair* shop was old. and needed_constant maintenance. The Shop was not
eguiPped with a crane for removing tractor motors, but, instead had an
improvised tripod. rig ifor accomplishing this phase of motor repair work.
Electric power was generated for the MS by a 514?HP diesel engine. 50X1-HUM
Security measures were nominal at the tras and the duty a the 50X1-HUM
on guard was- to check vehicles in and. out.
8. During August every year, students and factory workers from as far north as
Manny and ia far south as Astrakhan came to the Dzhanybek area to help
harvest the grain crops. The entire temporary labor force was controlled. 50X1-HUM.
by the 12B3. no other strangers in the area except those who came
to the meteorological station in 1955. several trains 50X1 -HUM
of troops passed southward through Dzhanybek en route to unknown desti-
nations. 50X1-HUM
