The following Bulgarian Military units were located in the Kharmanlii area: a. In late June 1952, an unidentified infantry battalion arrived from North- ern Bulgaria and was assigned to a camp, built by Trudovak units, approxi- mately two kilometers east of Mani Voden (N4140 E2557)1 b. On 8 July 1952, an Unidentified armored unit had tanks in Kharmanlii and at location N415535 E255520; the tanks were equipped with 75 mm, guns; c. On 30 June 1952, an unidentified unit, equipped with 30 tanks and 15 Soviet vehicles, was seen at Tesna (N4143 E2320), Devin district; each vehicle had a mortar and a machine gun; d. On 13 July 1952, a Trudovak company left iiiirbovo (N4146 E2551), where it had been working, and allegedly half of it went to the Samokov area and half to the Simitli area (N4153 E2306)? Petrich district; the company was composed of 200 to 300 men and was commanded by Second Lieutenant Todor Maskov. 2. bunkers in the Vtirbovo area, as follows: a. Bunker No. 1, located 500 meters north of Hill 514 (N414415 E255015), and 500 meters east of the road leading from Hill 514 to Vil'rbovo; b. Bunker No. 2, located northwest of Bunker No, 1; C.! Bunker No. 5, located approximately 300 meters south of the edge of I Viirbovo; Bunkers No. 3 and No. 4 are situated southwest of Bunker No. 5 and are 20 meters apart; CLASSIFICATION SECRET/CONIROL--U, S. OFFICIALS ONLY -2- 50X1-HUM Bunker No. 6, located northwest of Bulaker No. 5, at a point approximately 150 meters from the western edge of Vurbovo; Bunkers No, 7 No, 8 and No. 9, located approximately 500 meters west of the edge of Vurbovo; the three bunkers are 20 meters apart; 50X1-HUM Bunker No. 130 located approximately 20 metei's south of the bridge (sic); did not know the location of Bunkers No. 10, No. 110 and No. 12); Bunker No. 14, located approximately 20 meters north of the bridge men- tioned in paragraph f. 7 No. 18, and No. 19 50X1-H UM 50X1-H UM 3. All the bunkers listed above are circular-shaped, two meters in diameter, and "the height of a man." The bunkers were completed on 13 July 1952, at which time the Trudovak construction company left the area. 4. Additional bunkers have been constructed north and west of the village of Malki Voden. Trenches have been built from Malki Vdden to Hill 618, at loca- tion N414410 E255315, and from the village of Chereshak (N4149 E2558) towards Malko Gradishte. It was rumored that other defense installations and trenches were to be constructed from Nova }cabala (114148 E2552) to Cherna Magna. 5. Anti-tank-barriers have been constructed at the edge of Chernichino (04136 E2551)? hear the road to Ivaylovgrad. Small steel beams have been placed in concrete bases. 50X1-HUM .6. An unspecified quantity bricks were transported to Bulgarin (N4157 E2558). and to Glavan where they were to be used in the construction or various de- fense projects. 7. An underground =munition and weapons warehouse is located at N515450 E255550. SECRET/CONTROL- -U. S.
