1. "Srebrnica in Feet Bosnia, the ancient lead-zinc mine, is being reopened
Lbec 51/. Large bodies of ore' have been found under the old workings.
Srebrnida has been famous for more than evo thousand years. Ilyriene,
Romans and Saxons 'drew their wealth from these Silver and gold bearing ore.1
The invasion of the' Turks stopped mining there. The Austrians investigated !,
the mines again but could not rind payable ore. Recent geological researc*s
have been successful and produCtion is expected in 1954. The Black Guber Well
has also been curbed and its healing water, known from old, healing anaemi
will be bottled. "
2. "On the Sneznik mountain, North =et Istria, big bauxite ore bodies in high
sections have recently been diSeevered 2Tec 517.
3. "The Majdanpek mine Nortr East Serbia, has procced up to the present 2Te
pyrite and limonite: Geological investigations since 1949 have been very
successful and 105 million tons of ore cuntaining 0.85 - 0.9% copper and an
economical amcunt of pyrite have been ascertained and mageed. Adits amount-
ing to 15,300 in, 800 m investigation-shafts and 3500 in of drill holes nave
been driven. Mining is planned partly by surface workings and partly by under-
ground work. The flotation plant will have to treat 10 thousand tons of ore
per day. The concentrates are going to be smelted at Bor, 35 km southeast
of Majdanpek. Yearl metal production from Majdanpek ores is calculated at
rate of 25 thousand tons copper; 30 tons silver and three tons of gold.
Production is expected not earlier than 1957."
