Khainboaski Prohod), in the village of VONESHTA VODA (LH 9148) during July and
August 1958 a mass5ox1-Hum
movement of Bulgarian land forces from northern Bulgaria to the Greek and-Turk-
ish frontiers via the major north-south military highway. The highway passed
through the Pass of the Republic from RUSE and TURNOVO via KILIFAREVO, VUGLEVTSI,
VOINEZHA, VONESHTA VODA (2VENKOVTSI), NIKOLAEVO, GURKOVO, NOVA ZAGORA And
SVILENGRAD.
The road was called.the-main military road (Glaven Voenneh Put) 50X1-HUM
It was a first-class, hard surface, all-weather 50X1-HUM
road, built by the military labor troops daring the period 1955-1958 or 1959.
During the mass movement Of three dayt and nights, the inhabitants along the
route were near panic and-believed that fullacale warfare had erupted. 50X1-HUM
the road, which was in first class condition, was a polish
expenditure of funds for military purposes, because the many 50X1-HUM
bridges, defiles and passes through which the road had to be cut, werevery_
nerable to a minimum of air bombardment or local demolitions.
