SIGNIFICANCE: EXPANSION IS UNDERWAY AT THE PRIMARY SOVIET PORT FROM W ICH MILITARY EQUIPMENT IS EXPORTED TO THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES. (SWN) 2. REMARKS: EXTENSIVE EXPANSION OF THE NORTH MOLE AREA AND NEW CO~fSTRUCTION IN AN AREA EAST OF THE NORTH MOLE WAS OBSERVED ON 0 A SUCTION DREDGE WAS DEPOSITING SPOIL IN THE AREA EAST OF THE NORTH MOLE FORMING A LANDFILL PERPENDICULAR TO THE SHORELINE. ANOTHER DREDGE, PRESENT SINCE CONTINUED TO DEPOSIT SPOIL ALONG THE NORTH SHORE F THE NORTH MOLE. THIS HAS CONSIDERABLY EXPANDED THE MOLE AND EXTENDED IT INTO THE RIVER BEYOND ITS ORIGINAL LENGTH.
