1. SIGNIFICANCE: A MOTORIZED INFANTRY BRIGADE IS NEWLY
IDENTIFIED. (SWN)
2. REMARKS: THE BRIGADE CONSISTS OF ONE TANK BATTALION, TWO
MOTORIZED INFANTRY BATTALIONS, AND SUPPORT ELEMENTS. EQUIPMENT
INCLUDES 21 T-34/85 AND SIX T-54/55 MEDIUM TANKS, FOUR BTR-60PB
AND 20 BTR-152 ARMORED PERSONNEL CARRIERS (APC), TWO BRDM-2
ARMORED SCOUT CARS, AND SEVERAL TRUCKS. THE BTR-60 APC, WHICH
ARE PROBABLY SUBORDINATE TO HEADQUARTERS ELEMENTS, WERE HERE AS
EARLY (SWN)
VILA MONTEPUEZ IS IN THE NORTHERN MILITARY REGION,
APPROXIMATELY 120 NM SOUTH OF THE MOZAMBIQUE-TANZANIA BORDER.
