CAUSIN OR ES TO WITHDRAW FROM FORMERLY HELD POSITIONS
AND ESTABLISH NEW DEFENSIVE LINES CLOSER TO THE IRAQ-IRAN
BORDER (GRAPHIC 1 OF 3).
2. (S/D) REMARKS: ELEMENTS OF THREE IRAQI ARMORED (ARMD)
BRIGADES, ARTILLERY (ARTY) UNITS, AND A MULTIPLE ROCKET
LAUNCHER (MRL) UNIT HAVE BEEN REPOSITIONED SINCE 25X1
AND AN IRAQI ARMD DIVISION IS DEPLOYED SOUTHWEST OF SHUSH.
(S/D) SINCE IRANIAN INFANTRY (INF) FORCES, 25X1
SUPPORTED B KS ND SELF-PROPELLED (SP) GUNS, HAVE ADVANCED
TU WI'THIN 9 NM OF THE IRAQ BORDER, AND ARE NOW 11 NM WEST OF
THE TOWN OF EMAMZADEH ABBAS. IRANIAN INF FORCES, SUPPORTED BY
TANKS AND SP GUNS, HAVE ADVANCED APPROXIMATELY 2 NM WEST AND
ARE NOW 20 NM SOUTHWEST OF SHUSH NEAR 32-06N 047-56E.
(5/D) IRAQI FORCES HAVE CONSTRUCTED AN EARTHEN BERM ON THE WEST
SIDE OF THE DOVEYRIJ RIVER BETWEEN 32-29N 047-25E AND
32-18N 047-36E. ELEMENTS OF AN IRAQI ARMD BRIGADE HAVE BEEN
REDEPLOYED BEHIND THE BERM AND OCCUPY POSITIONS THAT EXTEND
FROM 32-25N 047-31E TO 32-18N 047-36E. THE OTHER TWO
REDEPLOYED IRAQI ARMD BRIGADES NOW ARE NEAR 32-19N 047-39E ArID
32-19N 047-28E.
(S/D) REPOSITIONED IRAQI ARTY UNITS, NEAR 32-18N 047-30E,
INCLUDE A 130MM FIELD GUN M-46 BATTALION (BN) AND A 122MM
HOWITZER D-30 BN. ELEMENTS OF THE M-46 BN ARE BEING PLACED IN
BATTERY (GRAPHIC 2 OF 3). A MRL BATTERY (GRAPHIC 3 OF 3) AND
ELEMENTS OF A FIELD ARTILLERY BN HAVE BEEN REPOSITIONED NEAR
32-23N 047-23E
