1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: CHINA IS PROBABLY PREPARING TO SELL
FISHBED TO A N RY OTHER THEN NORTH KOREA.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: EIGHT PROBABLE FISHBED FUSELAGE SHIPPING
CONTAINRS A E PRESENT (NOT ALL ON GRAPHIC). THE CONTAINERS,
WITH MAIN BODY DIMENSIONS OF 12 BY HAVE PROTRUSIONS
AT EACH END AND A ROUNDED AND CIIAMFERE TOP. THE CONFIGURATION
OF THESE CONTAINERS IS UNLIKE KNOWN SOVIET FISHBED CONTAINERS,
INDICATING THEY ARE INDIGENOUSLY PRODUCED. THE PRESENCE OF
PROBABLE FISHBED CONTAINERS AT THIS PLANT SUGGESTS FUTURE
OVERSEAS SIIIPI4ENT OF FISHBED TO CUSTOMERS OTHER THAN
NORTH KOREA. PREVIOUS FISHBED DELIVERIES TO NORTH KOREA HAVE
BEEN BY FERRY FLIGHT.
(S/D) CHENGDU AIRFRAME PLANT 132, ON THE NORTHWEST EDGE OF
CHENGDU IN SOUTH-CENTRAL CHINA, IS A MAJOR AIRFRAME PLANT
INVOLVED IN THE PRODUCTION OF FISHBED AND THE
OVERHAUL/MODIFICATION OF FRESCO AIRCRAFT.
