120TH INFANTRY DIVISION, 40TH ARMY,
SHEN-YANG MILITARY REGION, CHINA
Army, Shen-yang Military Region (MR), China.
1. This report locates and delineates the major elements of the 120th infantry Division, 40th
and contains a location map, a table, and a photograph. The purpose of this
report is to combine point targets into target areas to provide more meaningful analysis and reporting.
2. The 120th Infantry Division is one of three infantry divisions subordinate to the 40th
Army and is located at and southwest of Chin-hsi. The division consists of a headquarters area, a
tank regiment, an artillery regiment, and three infantry regiments.
3. Table 1 lists the units of the 120th Infantry Division with their installation names, BE
numbers, geographic coordinates, and COMIREX numbers. The installations listed below are keyed
to Figures 1 and 2.
Hsing-cheng Barracks and Headquarters Infantry Division AL 1
4. This infantry division headquarters area (area A), 1 nautical mile (nm) north of Hsing-cheng
and 9 nm southwest of Chin-hsi, also houses a tank regiment and a tank dispersal and training area.
The division headquarters area consists of a multistory I-shaped headquarters building, an E-shaped
administration building, 18 barracks, five messhalls, two auditoriums, a heating plant, a multiwing
hospital, 18 vehicle sheds, three vehicle maintenance buildings, an ammunition storage area with 12
small ammunition storage buildings, numerous storage/support buildings, and a separately located
associated housing area.
5. The tank regiment area consists of a C-shaped headquarters building, ten barracks, a large
messhall, an auditorium, two furnace buildings, 12 vehicle sheds, two large vehicle maintenance
buildings, numerous storage/support buildings, and a tank subcaliber range.
6. The tank dispersal and training area consists of 14 barracks/quarters, four messhalls, six
tank storage sheds, an ammunition storage area with nine ammunition storage buildings, and an
extensive tracked-vehicle driver-training course.

7. This artillery regiment (area B), 4.5 nm southeast of Chin-hsi, consists of a multistory
C-shaped headquarters building/barracks, an administration building/barracks, a large H-shaped
messhall, an auditorium, three furnace buildings, 19 weapons/vehicle storage sheds, two vehicle
maintenance buildings, numerous storage/support buildings, and extensive civilian-type housing in the
immediate area.

8. This infantry regiment (area C), on the northeast edge of Chin-hsi, consists of an H-shaped
headquarters building, four C-shaped administration buildings, 31 barracks, 15 messhalls, an
auditorium, a furnace building, a water tower, eight vehicle sheds, three small vehicle maintenance
buildings, six small ammunition storage buildings, numerous storage/support buildings, an associated
housing area, and two small-arms firing ranges.

9. This infantry regiment (area D), 4 nm southwest of Chin-hsi., consists of an H-shaped
headquarters building, three C-shaped administration buildings, 36 barracks, 12 messhalls, an
auditorium, six vehicle storage buildings, a small vehicle maintenance building, ten small ammunition
storage buildings, numerous storage/support buildings, and a small-arms firing range.

10. This infantry regiment (area E), 16.5 nm southwest of Chin-hsi and 6.5 nm southwest
of Hsing-cheng, consists of an H-shaped headquarters building, five C-shaped administration buildings,
30 barracks, 16 messhalls, an auditorium, a furnace building, a water tower, 1.3 vehicle sheds, two
vehicle maintenance buildings, nine small ammunition storage buildings, numerous storage/support
buildings, a small-arms firing range, a training area with extensive trenching, and an associated housing
area.
