HAVE S F ERED A CASUALTY AT THIS PACIFIC FLEET OPERATING BASE
FOR DIESEL-POWERED ATTACK SUBMARINES.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: A PROBABLE F SS NIAY HAVE SUFFERED A CASUALTY OF
UNKNOWUi~E WHILE MOORED AT THE NORTH PIER AT BECHEVINSKAYA
SUBMARINE BASE. THE SUBMARINE APPEARS TO BE PARTIALLY
UNDERWATER WITH ONLY THE FORWARD THIRD OF THE HULL VISIBLE.
OTHER NAVAL ORDER-OF-BATTLE INCLUDES AN ADDITIONAL F SS AND ONE
G AUXILIARY UBMARINE COMMUNICATIONS (SSQ). TWO F SS WERE AT
THE FACILITY HOWEVER, NEITHER WAS BERTHED AT
THE NORTH PIER.
(S/D) BECHEVINSKAYA, APPROXIMATELY 45 NM EAST-NORTHEAST OF
PETROPAVLOVSK KAI~iCHATSKIY, IS ATd OPERATING BASE FOR
DIESEL-POWERED ATTACK SUBMARINES.
