1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: SS-20 DEPLOYMENT ACTIVITY, CONSISTING OF
AN SS-20 LAUNCH UNIT AND A PROBABLE SS-20 COMMUNICATIONS UNIT,
IS OBSERVED IN THE NOVOSIBIRSK COMPLEX.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: A PROBABLE SS-20 LAUNCH BATTALION IS OBSERVED
IN CONVOY AT 04532 PROBABI, ING TO DEPART NOVOSIBIRSK
MOBILE IRBM BASE 2 FOR A FIELD DEPLOYMENT. THE 25X1
CONVOY CONSISTS OF 11 VEHICLES INCLUDING AT LEAST TWO
TRANSPORTER-ERECTOR-LAUNCHERS (TEL). ON ADDITIONAL COVERAGE OF
THE NOVOS IBIP.S:ti AREA, APPROXIMATELY FOUR HOURS LATER AT 0842Z,
A PROBABLE SS-20 COMMUNICATIONS UNIT IS BEING FIELD DEPLOYED TO
A SMALL CLEARING 8 NM SOUTHt1EST OF MOBILE BASE 2 AND 0.6 NM
NORTHEAST OF NOVOSIBIRSK IRBM RR TRANSFER POINT
THE COMMUNICATIONS UNIT CONSISTS OF FOUR 25X1
PROBABLE MISSILE SUPPORT VEHICLES (MSV) SETTING UP IN THE
CLEARING AND TWO PROBABLE'BTR-6OPB ARMORED PERSONNEL CARRIERS
ON THE ROAD NEA THE DEPLOYMENT AREA. THE DEPLOYMENT AREA WAS
UNOCCUPIED WHEN IMAGED AT 0453Z. ALL FIVE NOVOSIBIRSK MOBILE
IRBM BASES ARE IMAGED, AND NO OTHER DEPLOYMENTS ARE OBSERVED.
