(S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: A SOVIET BATTALION-SIZED UNIT IS AT THE NEWLY IDENTIFIED QUAL-YE-NOW SOVIET BIVOUAC. 2. (S/D) REMARKS: EQUIPMENT INCLUDES FOUR POSSIBLE ARMORED VEHICLES, 77-TRUCKS AND VEHICLES, SIXTEEN 40-MAN TENTS, AND NINE 10-MAN TENTS. DEFENSIVE TRENCHING AND NUMEROUS VEHICLE REVETMENTS ARE ALSO PRESENT. QUAL-YE-NOW IS IN NORTHWEST AFGHANISTAN, 27 NM SOUTH OF THE USSR/AFGHANISTAN BORDER. 3.I (COORDINATES 34-59-OON 063-07-10E COMMENTS AND QUERIES REGARDING THIS BRIEFING BOARD MAY BE DIRECTED TO THE NPIC/PEG OPERATIONS OFFICER.
