Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/08/18: CIA-RDP78TO5698A000100010079-0 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/08/18: CIA-RDP78TO5698A000100010079-0 SIMILARITY BETWEEN ELECTRONICS FACILITIES AT LOURDES, CUBA, AND VICAK, USSR (TSR) (TSR) Continuing analysis of the Space -Associated Electronics Facility at Lourdes Military Headquarters Torrens, Cuba , revealed a similarity between that 25X1 facility and the operations area at Vicak Space Tracking Facility, USSR 25X1 (TSR) a new 7-meter parabolic dish antenna was first observed at the 25X1 Space-Associated Electronics Facility at Lourdes , a second 7-meter parabolic 25X1 dish antenna was observed at this facility. Each of these antennas was mounted on a separate console, each console composed of three prefabricated shelters or vans. Two 5- meter parabolic-dish antennas which have been at the installation 25X1 were collocated with the above equipmen (Figure 1), each of the 5-meter 25X1 dish antennas was observed oriented in azimuth and elevation with one of the 7-meter dish antennas. Next to the 7-meter dishes were two additional prefabricated shelters or vans and two pod-shaped, probable antenna shipping containers. Each of the latter had a centrally located, square-shaped probable antenna mount on to v. Components of most of this equip- ment were first imaged at Lourdes 25X1 (TSR) Other satellite-associated electronics equipment in the Lourdes area (not depic- ted on the graphic) included a 12-meter Orbita-type antenna and a 7-meter MARS-type an- tenna at Lourdes Space Associated Electronics Facility South and two 25X1 mobile communications satellite (comsat) antennas at Lourdes Military Camp 25X1 And Vehicle Park Torrens 25X1 (TSR) A review of Soviet comsat-related facilities revealed similar equipment at Vicak Space Tracking Facility a 7-meter parabolic dish mounted in the same 25X1 manner as those at Lourdes was first observed. In close proximity to the antenna were a pod- shaped container and a prefabricated shelter or van (Figure 2) similar to those at Lourdes. A 5-meter parabolic dish antenna and a 32-meter parabolic dish antenna (not annotated) were within the operations area. all three of these antennas were at the same 25X1 azimuth and elevation angle. (TSR) Other satellite-associated electronics equipment at Vicak included a 12-meter comsat-type antenna and a_comsat-type antenna (not depicted on the graphic). 25X1 (S/WNINTEL) A report stated that a Soviet site under military con25X1 trol near Ventspils, Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR), was responsible for intercept of US space vehicle signals including those from Skylab. The space-associated electronics facility at Vicak is 13 nautical miles north-northeast of Ventspils and is the only such facility identified in the Latvian. SSR. (TSR) To date, no installations have been observed which either possess a similarly mounted 7-meter parabolic dish antenna or employ a 7-meter with a 5-meter parabolic dish antenna.
