1. SIGNIFICANCE: PREPARATIONS FOR A SHIPMENT OF THREE ROMEO-CLASS
DIESEL ATTACK SUBMARINES (SS) ARE CONTINUING. (SWN)

2. REMARKS: THREE SETS OF FOUR SHIPPING CRADLES, WHICH APPEAR
CAPABLE OF SUPPORTING ROMEO-CLASS SUBMARINES, HAVE BEEN
POSITIONED IN THE WELLDECK OF THE CHINESE FLOAT-ON/FLOAT-OFF
(FLO/FLO) MERCHANT CARGO SHIP SHA HE KOU. THE FLO/FLO IS STILL
MOORED IN THE RIVER NEAR THE SHIPYARD. (SWN)
ALTHOUGH A SHIPMENT CF TWO ROMEO SS TO EGYPT HAS BEEN EXPECTED,
THE THREE SETS OF CRADLES ON THE SHA HE KOU BRINGS INTO
QUESTION THE DESTINATION OF THIS SHIPMENT. EGYPT HAS BEEN
AWAITING DELIVERY OF THE LAST TWO OF FOUR ROMEOS ORDERED FROM
CHINA. THE FIRST TWO ROMEOS WERE DELIVERED TO EGYPT IN EARLY
1982. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT ANOTHER COUNTRY HAS AGREED TO
PURCHASE A ROMEO, WHICH COULD BE DELIVERED BY THE SHA HE KOU EN
ROUTE TO EGYPT. (SWN)
