These ships are lapproxi- mately the size of a TURYA hydrofoil submarine chaser (PCH). A large unidentified weapons position, was seen on the bow area on the first unit. These dimensions are significantly larger than those of the twin 25mm antiaircraft gun on the TURYA PCH. A large unidentified housing, was on the aft portion of all three units. This housing appears to be twin peaked and canted aft. The width of the forward edge is 8.1 meters and of the aft edg A rounded possible electronics position was just aft of the housing. The superstructure differs from the TURYA PCH; the visible portion is T-shaped an No torpedo tubes were apparent. Portions of hydrofoils were visible on two units. This is the third new class of hydrofoil patrol craft developed by the Soviet Union in less than two years. The SARANCHA PGH (PETR B) was first observed with hydrofoils and the 497B was seen The KOLPINO A is the only one of these combatants observed in series production. 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 Top sec, at IIR-015/77 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/08/17: CIA-RDP78TO5698A000300010015-8 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/08/17: CIA-RDP78TO5698A000300010015-8 Iq Next 1 Page(s) In Document Denied Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/08/17: CIA-RDP78TO5698A000300010015-8
