Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/08/17: CIA-RDP78T05698A000300010068-0 __ 1- .1 _ I Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/08/17: CIA-RDP78TO5698A000300010068-0 National Photographic Interpretation Center IMAGERY INFORMATION REPORT DEPLOYMENT OF RIGID POINTED PONTON TANK FERRY ALONG SINO-SOVIET BORDER, USSR (TSR) (TSR) Thirty-three sets of the rigid pointed ponton tank ferry (Figure 1) were identified at Berezovka Army Barracks AL 1, USSR, on This is the first operational deployment of this piece of equipment east of the Ural Mountains. Berezovka is in the Far East Military District, 21 nautical miles (nm) east of the Sino- Soviet Border. (TSR) The ferry consists of a left and a right ponton section which are attached to the tank with crossmembers. These crossmembers are similar to those used with rigid rectangular pontons. The rigid pointed ponton ferries are used in crossing bodies of water where snorkeling or conventional bridging cannot be used.
