TICIel Explostvc. explosive decomposition of cyclopentadiene was titudied. pp- (1-18892 'nifs effect was found to be due to thermal explosion re- sultIng frorn the hear of dimerization. Decomposition of cyclopcntadlene and cyclohexadiene under the action of a shock --- rroduced by a deroanter with a capsule with 1, 1 g tetryl was similar in character. 71he pres- ence of the dimer in the cyclopentadiene monomer retards the explosive decomposttion and requires an in- crease in the critical pressure. 7he pure dimer is in- capable of undergoing an explostve decomposition, even under very high pressure produced by a shock wave from a detonater. The Mlosive decomposition can be interrupted even after Its Initiation by a sudden drop in pressure below the critical value.
