MEMORANDUM FOR: MR. K1
FROM: JOHN I HOLDRIDGE`
ACTION
November 2, 1971
SUBJECT: Request from Han Su-yin for Appointment with You
I received a telephone call on November 1 from David Ginsberg, who says
he knows you, in which Ginsberg passed on the information that pro-Peking
authoress Han Su-yin has "something unofficial to transmit of importance"
and wants to see you. Ginsberg received this word from an acquaintance
named Barth who talked to Han Su-yin in Paris last week, and heard from
her that what she wants to pass on concerns U. S. -Peking relations. She
alleges that she has good connections in high places in the PRC.
25X1
At Ginsberg's request I said I would inform you of this request. I doubt
that Han Su-yin has anything of value to give you, and knowing something
of the lady's techniques (I had occasional contacts with her in Singapore
when I was stationed there) I suspect that what she wants is simply to
further the greater glory of Han Su-yin.
She may have pieced together something about internal PRC developments
from speculation in the Western press, and this could be the' same kind of
hash which she would offer to you.
Recommendation:
That you agree to see Han Su-yin.
Approve,
Disapprove
That you authorize me to see Han Su-yin on your behalf.

That I turn the whole thing off.
