PURPOSE: To congratulate the Prime Minister and Mrs. Trudeau
on the birth of their second son, born on Christmas Day.
BACKGROUND: This is the second child born to the Trudeaus ?-?? both on
Christmas Day. The first son, Justin Pierre, was born
on December 25, 1971. On that occasion you sent the
Prime Minister the following message:
"What a special Christmas this has been for you. I know
that your countrymen are particularly excited about the
arrival of young Justin Pierre since he is the first child
born to an incumbent Prime Minister of Canada in over
100 years. You can be sure that your many friends in
this country also share your joy at the birth of your first
:son.
"Mrs. Nixon joins me in extending our warmest con-
gratulations to both of you at this very happy time. All
the Trudeaus have our very best wishes for a wonderful

The second son (seven pounds, nine ounces) has not yet
been named. The Canadian Embassy advises that both
mother and child are doing well.

TALKING POINTS: 1. We are very, very pleased with the good news that
you have a second son.
