19 December 1951 MEMORANDUM FOR: Liaison Officals- Project Artichoke -MBJECT $ Development of a Narcotic Antagonist have been advised of the development of an antagonist for uee in neutralizing over-doses or counter-acting the effect of Morphine, Methadon and most narcotics. The item is known as tORNORPU1Vg" and has been presented by the manufacturer to the Food and Drug Administration for approval. 2. This drug WPS developed toceuse of the recent fatalities in drug experimentation in the middle west. /twill not be offered for general distribution tut will be stocked in major hospitals and reser,rch establishments having a need for a morphine antagonist. 3. The drug is still in the "Trade secret" clams and this information should therefore be used with discretion. However, the manuftcturer has secured us that be will provide CIA with further information on the drug or samples of the drag itself if we have an interest in it.
