lm The Iron Guard in Argentina is presently conducting an elaborate
propaganda campaign among Rumanians in that country which is designed
to portray the Guard as the only group actively -interested in and able
to take action toward the liberation of Rumania from the Communists.
At the same time the Iron Guard attacks and attempts to defame all non-
Guardist elements abroad.
2. Guardists generally control the admittence of Rumanian immigrants to
Argentina. Many Rumanians wishing to emigrate to that country from
Europe manufacture for themselves documents showing membership in or
sympathy for the Iron Guard or seek the support of leading Guardists in
Buenos Aires.
30 The Iron Guard has perfected arrangements to handle members and sympathizers
among the immigrants. Such persons are met at the boat, guided through
customs, given temporary housing, furnished financial aid and placed in
jobs furnished by friends of the movement.
t Immigrants are generally housed in the Queen Marie home, an institution
sponsored by Archduchess Ileana0 Although supported by non-political
donations, this institution is known in Europe as the Legionnaire home
in Argentina.'
5. The Guardists publish the newspapers Romania and Curen-tul Roman, which
are issued when funds are available. F.omanis. generally encourages
collaboration among all Rumanians., mat Cu~~ en_Eai Roman, which is published
for the rank and file of the legionnaires., is _.o.+. in tone and attacks
emigre leaders who are not umbers of the Iron Guard.
6. A majority of the Iron Guar dints in Argentina, the so-called. '"shock men
or rank and file, is composed of individuals who sought refuge in Germany
after the failure of the Iron Guard retellion in January 1941. They
passed the years between their flight from Rumania and their; immigration
to Argentina in German and then in Allied camps. Many have changed their
names and have. assumed titles, such as doctor and professor, to which they
have no right. Those who have been in contact with United States and
British occupation forces spread propaganda hostile to these nations.
