Dear Mr. Hugel:
On December 3, 1980, the General Services Administration (GSA), in coordination
with the, Department of Defense, Military Traffic Management Command (MTMC),
awarded contracts with scheduled air carriers to provide official passenger
travel at reduced fares between selected city-pairs.
As part of the continuing effort to encourage savings of Government travel
expenditures, GSA and MTMC are publishing a "Federal Contract Air Service and
Travel Directory."
The monthly publication contains Federal contract airline schedules, telephone
reservation numbers, information on ground transportation services, Amtrak
schedules for the Northeast corridor (June issue), and discounted rates for
hotels/motels in the cities served by contract airlines.
Copies of the directory are sent, at no cost, to all Federal offices which
subscribe to the Official Airline Guide. However, GSA received overwhelming
demands for additional copies in response to the first issue. Arrangements have
now been made with the Government Printing Office to provide agencies with their
additional requirements for this publication.
The GSA invites your agency to ride our printing requisition by submitting a
Standard Form 1, Open Rider Requisition to the U.S. Government Printing Office,
Planning Service, Room C-836, Washington, D.C. 20401. The rider requisition
should cite GSA requisition B-0647. Requisitions received by the 20th of the
month will include your agency's requirements on the distribution list for the
following month's publication and subsequent issues. The cost of the monthly
publication will be approximately $.25 per copy.
Initial airline contracts for service between 11 city-pairs achieved significant
savings in travel costs for the Federal Government. The current contracts for
57 city-pairs are expected to produce savings of $12 million Government-wide.
In addition, we anticipate even greater savings will result from the awards to
be made on the May-1, 1981, solicitation for 134 city-pairs, provided Government
travelers are aware of and support the contract air program.
