First Ever Public Meeting At CIA Headquarters
JOHN HARTER: The CIA's Security Office is still in a
state of shock following a first-ever public meeting at the
Agency's Headquarters last night.
Some 300 McLean area residents told the Agency that
its proposed expansion plans would cause too much traffic
congestion. The CIA said it would try to ease the crunch by
improving access roads, also requiring car pools.
Congressman Frank Wolf organized the gathering.
CONGRESSMAN FRANK R. WOLF: We've also gotten a
commitment that there will be citizen participation involve-
ment. The CIA has been very willing to open it up and to allow
the citizens to be involved even before the planning and
consultant begins his work.
HARTER: The McLean. citizens told News 7's Carlos
Ramerez that they are taking a wait and see attitude.
WOMAN: It's good we had a turnout from the community.
I think they do know that the people are concerned, and that
they heard it. However, I'd like to see how our meetings go
from here on.
HARTER: The CIA says it hopes to break ground next
spring on their 190 million dollar expansion and complete it by
1987.
