Activity in Cambodia has continued to increase since 1-3 This 25X1 D
activity includes the construction of a large, new troop training area in Base
Area 701 and the construction of a large probable VC/NVA barracks and storage
area immediately west of Base Area 740 (Figure 1).

BASE AREA 701
A new Communist training area (Figures 2 & 3) is located in Base Area 701, 2
nautical miles (nm) inside Cambodia and 21 nm south-southwest of Duc Co, South
Vietnam.
This training area, constructed since consists of over 5,000 25X1 D
feet of trenching, 35 bunkers, and several small dispersed buildings. Four tank
mockups, two probable armored personnel carrier (APC) mockups, and two unidenti-
fied mockups are within the area. The mockups appear to have been designed for
use as training devices for defensive tactics, assault tactics against enemy
tanks, or for general recognition. 25X1 D

This area is connected by a well-used trail network to a probable support
area 10 nm to the south. Since this support area has been expanded
and contains 15 partially concealed buildings, trenches, bunkers, and several
areas of extensive row cropping.
BASE AREA 740
A new area of significant activity is observed immediately west of Base Area
740 and 8.2 nm north of the South Vietnam border (Figure 1+). It is a probable
VC/NVA barracks and storage area consisting of at least 235 structures, 200 of
which have been constructed. since Most of the buildings are con-
cealed or partially concealed under the heavy tree canopy and are of differing
construction and larger than the buildings indigenous to this area. Seventeen
large barracks or storage-type buildings, which were :Located in an open area in
