This memorandum is in partial response to the above referenced requirement which raauest a study of the rail facilities in Lan-chou, China with special emphasis on ' epair facilities. _ 2. One =notated photo enlarbement has been included with this memorandum (ClA/PID/IE-P-625 63). This' photo covers the repair facilities and includes all of the adjacent yards and facilities with the exception of the car storage yard (A_nnotatien A). Each component part of the repair facilities has been noted. 15 3. Enclosed with this memorandum are the following diagra--mTratics of the repair buildings obtained from A. Locomotive Repair Euildings B. Passenger and Freight Car Repair Buildings 4. A double track line services the entire facility from the northwest and a single track line from the southeast. The facilities are listed-and described below according to yards and nature of facilities. They are as ollows : A. Car Storage Yard (Not shown on graphics) (1) Six Tracks (2) 1,775 feet between choke points (3) Number of cars: 13 ta_n_K, 15 flat, 5 freight, and 9 open cars 25X1 D B. Locomotive Repair Facilities (So e freighi, cars being repaired here also) (1) Three tracks service each of the two repair buildings. These tracks extend, through the buildinS nearest the locomotive storage yard. Declassification review by NIMA/DOD Approved For Release 2000/09/14: CIA-RDP78TO5439A000200410072-9 (2) There are twenty-two locomotives and two freight cars in the above mentioned service tracks of this facility. A locomotive storage yard, approximately 1,070 feet between choke points with four tracks, is included in this facility. The car count in this yard is as follows: thirty- three locomotives and four freight cars. turntable services the entire facility. Also, a turning wye is located at the opposite end of the facility from the turntable. The wye track has a usable length of 160 feet. (6) Two buried storage tanks (probably water) C. Car Storage Yard (1) Twenty-two track (2) Length between choke points 2,295 feet= (3) Car count is as follows: 200 open, 150 tank, and 29 freight cars D. Car Storage Yard (Partially shown on graphics) (1) Sixteen tracks (2) Length between choke points, 2,295 feet E. Passenger and Freight Car Repair Facility (3) Car count is as follows: 60 freight, 55 tank, 40 open, and 1 locomotive. r3 ) (1) 11ain building is serviced by three tracks (See Enclosure (2) Two minor repair buildings are serviced by a double and single track respectively. (3). There are 25 p.ssenger cars, 7 freight cars, 6 open cars, and 2 tank cars on the service tracks of this facility.
