1. This memorandum is in response to.the referenced requirement which
asks for - an analysis of the City of Nan-ning, Communist China, with emphasis
on the industrial and transportation complexes.

provided the latest and best coverage of
the Nan-ning area, and was used to produce the town plan. Enlargements
which accompany this memorandum are also from this mission.
3. The annotated town plan locates the identifiable major industries,
transportation facilities, and government and institutional buildings. The
numerical designation assigned to each annotated area is keyed to the legend
appearing on the town plan.;
4. The enlargements are of those industrial and transportation facilities
that are considered of primary importance. These photos are keyed to the
town plan by the red annotated overlay to the town plan.
Area A - Unidentified Heavy Fabrication Plant (CTA/PID/IB-P-1312/6+) -
This facility is still under construction, but the main fabrication
buildings appear to be completed. There is no indication that any
component is in operation. -
Area B Unidentified Fabrication Plant (CTA/PID/IB-P-l3lO/64) -
This complex is also in the final stages of-construction, but none of
.the finished components seem to be in production.
Area C - Nan-ning Railyard (CIA/PID/IB-P-1309/6+) - This trans-
portation complex contains a classification yard, locomotive and car
repair shops, and warehouses. Fourteen locomotives and more than 230
cars of all types were counted in the complex. A moderate amount of
unidentified freight was observed in the southern and western sections
of the yard. .

SUBJECT: Nan-ning Area Study
Area D - Unidentified Chemical Pant_(CIA/PID/IB-P-1313/6+) -
This facility is located in the newly developed industrial area
south of the Yung River. It appear to be completed, but shows
no signs of being in operation.
An industry of lesser importance, an unidentified fabrication
shop, is located south of the chemical processing plant.
Area E - Thermal Power Plant and water works (CIA/PID/IB-P-l3l4/64) -
The thermal power-plant is in operation-and is reported to furnish almost
all of the power used in Nan-ring. An unidentified heat processing plant
is also located nearby. No activity was observed.at this. plant or at
other small unidentified industries located in the .vicinity.
Area F - Beet Sugar Refinery (CIA/PID/IB-P-1311/6)+) --This plant
is new and appears to be finished. No_indication was found that the
plant is in production. Alcohol will also be produced at this plant.'
5. Nan-ning has the usual'amount of small miscellaneous industries,
but no attempt was made to incluc these in this study. Only the-larger
and more significant industries, transportation facilities and government
buildings are'contained in this report.
6. The photo analyst 'assigned to this project was 25X1A
who may be contacted on extension 25+7 shoul-d you have any further questions
regarding this requirement. This memorandum and enclosed graphics complete
this requirement.
