Launch Area No 3 is located in a wooded area 5.4 nautical miles (nm) east of Postavy and 4.6 nm southeast of Postavy MRBM Launch Site 1 (Figure 1). The Postavy rail-to-road transfer point, on the northern edge of Postavy, is connected to Launch Area No 3 and the other launch areas by direct roads with wide-radius turns. The installation consists of a secured launch site with 4 launch silos andasemiburied, earth- covered launch control building; a secured site support facility 1 nm to the west, with at least 22 buildings and 1 garage/vehicle maintenance building; and a probably doubly RDPJ8T0j759AO0230001 stage when it was first identified ii I with 1 silo and the unmounded launch control building identifiable at the launch site. Con- struction continued during the winter of 1963-64 on both the launch site and the site support facility. By the entire area was in a late stage of construction and by Sep- tember the launch site appeared complete and operational, with silo covers in place and the area graded.
