Sui-fen-ho is the eastern terminus of the main northern Manchuria east-west rail line. Grodekovo is the western terxxxi s of a rail line which branches from the main Vladivostok- - Khabarovsk railroad. The Sui-fen-ho transloading yard is 2700 feet long and 20-25 tracks wide. No cranes, loading platforms, or other transloading facilities are apparent. Approximately 60 miscellaneous rail cars are visible but types and sizes cannot be discerned on this photography. Approx- imately 200 miscellaneous cars and a steam locomotive are visible in a holding yard, 2000 feet long and 6-8 tracks wide, located just south of the transloading yard. A smaller yard, 1500 feet long and 9-10 tracks wide, is adjacent to the railroad repair shops at the northern end of the transloading yard. Approved For Release 2008/01/03: CIA-RDP78TO5439A000200230100-3 Approved For Release 2008/01/03: CIA-RDP78TO5439A000200230100-3 Top SL ff O - The Grodekovo transloading yard, 4000 feet long and 12-14 tracks w-ide, contains approximately 200 miscellaneous freight and 50 passenger cars. L. the center of the yard opposite the railroad station are 6 to 8 tracks adjoining some small warehouses or transfer sheds. This is prob- ably where bulk freight transfer betweem gages occurs. There are no cranes or other unloading equipment visible at this site. At the edge of the yard behind a 320 foot warehouse are several short spurs upon which are. four possible locomotive cranes. South of the main transloading yard is a 1450 foot long elevated track upo::! which are a nine possible tank cars. This facility is probably used for gravity flow of petroleum products from Russian to Chinese gage cars. Approximately 25 other cars and a locomotive are scattered throughout the area.. An open storage area 200 feet by 900 feet is served by two spur lines north ,of the railyard and another smaller storage area 200 feet by 200 feet is located it the turning wye. . -~. A V Along the 13.5 mile rail line between Sui-fen-ho and Grodekovo are five tunz--els. The three tu_ tiels in China are 255, 330, and 620 feet long and the two in the USSR are 220 and 365 feet long. The major components of the rail transloading yards are described on foliowi-:g pages and annotated on accompanying photographs._ Approved For Release 2008/01/03: CIA-RDP78TO5439A000200230100-3 SUZ-FEN-HO Approved For Release 2008/01/03: CIA-RDP78T05439A000200230100-3 TOP SECRET HTA/SM-2//57 REQUIREMENT: Prepared in aWawer to RR/HTA/E/SZ/57 and RR/HTA/E/S3/57 requesting detailed descriptions of the Sui- fes-ho, Chimes aad Grodekovo, USSR traasloading yards, and a photomosaic of the connecting rail lime.
