.ill Communist units: The North Independent 3 Division (Nevi 3 Division) is
at Lengehiatun (125-15,43-51). The North Independent 6 Division is at
Yangchiatun (i25-16,43s-47), The North Independent 7 Division is at Hsiao
chengtzu (125-1-6,,43-59),, The North Independent 9 Division is at Yangehiatien
(two kilometers east of Changchun). The North Independent 1.0 Division is in
the area of the Changchun west airfield, and the main force of the North 12
Column is ;:est of the North Independent 10 Division. The lest 8 and West ll
2. An undetermined number of Communist troops arrived in the area east of
Changchun.
On 9 July troops of the Nationalist 50 Division pushed southwest from
Liaochung (122-444,4i.32) to reconnoiter. Approximately one, regiment strength
of additional troops of the 50 Division moved southward on the east flank of
the first group. The Nationalist forces surrounded the Con. "Waist South, .
Independent 5 Division at Iuangshato (122.28,4..12). The Nationalists killed
over; 30 Communists, including the deputy division commander and a battalion
commander., before the Communist division withdrew. Thirty prisoners were
taken.

12. On 17 July the Nationalist push to Anshan was halted, pending the decision
of 116-BSH as to whether to continue the attack or to consolidate their gains,
On the morning of 17 July the Nationalist 50 Division attacked Huangshatoa
The 11.E Division of the Nationalist New 3 Army is south of Huatzukou (123..28,
41-25) as an army reserve; the 54 Division of the Nationalist New 3 Army is
about.10 kilometers southwest of Tanghoyen,, On 16 July elements of the Nation-
alist 71 Araq occupied Kungehutun (123-01,42-09). The Communist South
Independent 5 Division withdrew to Niuchuang (122-32,40-57),

13. The Nationalists captured the northern (Lishan) (323-01,41-03) railroad station
in Anshan on 17 July. On 18 July troops (not in uniform) of the 25 Division
entered the city. Anshan is in complete disorder with various mobs looting
the city. The main force of the Communist 4 Column moved east of Anshan to
the vicinity of Langtzushan.
14. All Nationalist, units: On 18 July the Temporary 59 Division was heavily
engaged south of Tanghoyen; the Communist troops were rrobably part of the
Commw ist 4 Column. The 54 Division is west of Taanping, the 2 Division
is moving southwest of the railroad between Liaoyang and Anshan,, the 30
Division is north and west of Liuerhpu, the 50 Division is between Lisochung
and Iluangshato, and the 14 Division is south of Huatzukou. Headquarters of
the New 1 Army is at Ssufangtai (12257,41-34), headquarters of the New 3
Army is at Huatzukou, and headquarters of the 52 Army is at Liaoyang.
15. On 15 July one regiment of the Communist 10 Column moved to Tungchiangkou
(123--43242 36)o The 18 Division of the Communist 6 Column is near Changchun
pao (l25-16,43-44)y one division of the 6 Column is at Wul:_chiaotzu (lz5522,
43--44) and the other division, of the 6 Columi is at Shelingkoutzu (125-31,,
43-41),, About 20,000 Commmist troops are at Yaoyangmiao (E..20?lO,4O.48) with
another 10,000 at Ningshuitang (1_19-51,40-?4); probably those are troops of
the Communist West 8 and West 11 Co1wnns.

16. On the morning of 19 July Nationalist P,PC troops entered Anshan, but withdrew
the same night because many Communist troops remained in hiding in Anshan.
The Nationalist Temporary 59 Division captured five Japanese who were with
the 10 Division of the Communist 4 Columa, The 10 and 12 Divisions of the
Communist 4 Column are in the triangular sector between Lar!gtzushan, Ta-
hsingtun (123-20,41-02) and Tanghoyen. The 11 Division of the Commaunist.
4 Column is at Chilingtzu (123-07541-05). On 19 July the rain body of the
Communist 1 Column moved to the area between Lungehiapu (3.25-40,44-04) and
Kalunchieh (125-32,44-03),, A small part of this unit remains in Ch iutai

troops is on the offensive'south of Mukdeno The Nationalist advance has
been halted and all units ordered to withdraw and consolidate their positions
to the rear of the line which extends from Ponohihu (123.-1+5,41-20) to the north
of Taanping to Shoushan to Liuerhpu to Huangshato. The Nationalist 20'7
Division evacuated Hsiaoshih and Chiupingtai. The Nationalist 73. Army
returned to Hsincmin.

On 15 July about 2,000 Communist recruits from Yencht (129-31.,42-55) and
Tureen passed through Kirin. These troops are now a(, Shtaangyang (125-40,
43-32). On 13 July another 2,000 troops passed through Funshih (126-03,42-56)
and are now at Meihokou (125-41.942-32). Twenty-seven artillery pieces
arrived in Ssupingchieh (124-22,43--11) from the Peian (l26-3/+,48.16) area.

repaired by using timbers in place of steel. The railroac from Liaoyuan
(123-30,43?-30) to Ssupingchjeh appeared to be operating, as some railroad
cars were seen near Pamiencheng (124.03i 3-12) and the ra;:..s were bright
as if from uses;
