1. Alfredo Mario Ferreiro, an influential Communist newspapet*man, recently
received employment as a reporter for President Luis Batlle Berres'
newly organized newspaper Accion. Comment. Ferreiro was
considered the most intima. en o Fig o panian, Tans News
Agency correspondent, during the time Stepanian was stationed in
Montevideo. Before his departure from that city, Stepanian stated that
although there would be no official Pass representative in ?Aontevideo,
Ferreiro would care for Tass' interests there.)
2. Carlos Borches, a well-known newspaperman who was once a leading Communist,
was recently employed as an editor by M~areha, an anti-United States weekly
newspaper published in Montevideo. Al ihouggh Bkrches renounced his affili-
ation -with-the Communist Party in 1939 as a result of the Soviet Union's
invasion of Finland, source claims that he is still a Communist. On his
second day with Mareha, Borches was told by the editor, Dr. Carlos
Quintana, to remember ~that he was not writing headlines for Justicia
(Communist newspaper),
