SUBJECT: Authorization for Language Lessons
DATE: 19 July 1949
1. The Chief of Station has requested authorization
for reimbursement to for lessons in the
language. In s wor as Operations Officer,,
wwi be in contact with nationals of many behind the curtain
countries, the majority of them and knowledge of
this language would be of great va ue obtaining information
which will directly benefit the government.

2. - has been taking lessons since 1 March and it is
requested that authorization be granted to permit him to continue
taking these lessons,,, and that payment be approved retroactively,,
from the starting date to the end of this calendar year. It is
estimated that the cost is not to exceed a total of $200,, for
three lessons weekly at $1.50 per lesson for forty-four weeks.
The Station Chief has assured us that the instructor is quite
secure.
