has riot written when he will return to Hawaii. We
doubt that he returns before August.
25X1 A spent far too much time on
25X1A-.paper-making manuscript. n ear y June we told them to cease
work on it, except for a final typing. is in Kona for 25X1A
three weeks and has the pieces of the manuscript with her. The first
25X1A diary that is working on is difficult to type. It
is larger than the rem..aining 17 diaries and is full. of plant names
that require constant use of botanical dictionaries for correct spell-
ing. She is on page 249 and is about two-thirds through. The other
diaries do not make such frequent use of botanical names as the first
one.
25X1A
estimates that she has 40 hours of typing
on the first diary. The next diary is an odd size smaller than the
first, but larger than the others so the estimate is 100 hours. To
vet an idea of how much time is involved in typing the small diaries
25X1 A we had type for twelve hours on- 296 page 25X1 A
Vol XI Li-Chiang to u- and Yung-Ding 1928-1929. She typed 44
pages In 12 hours. At this rate each of the 16 volumes will take
about 80 hours.
(,. `.Phis makes a total of 1420 hours or about nine months of
typin; to get a first, unedited draft. At the rate of present ex-
penses this would cost from $3500 to $,4000. This does not include
editing an(l re~yp?int.
