Abstract: [English article, authors' English summary modified] An outbreak of infectious canine hepatitis was observed in the animal nursery of the Budapest Zoo in the spring of 1965. All of the 4-5 months old bear cubs died within about 2 weeks. Pathological and histological studies revealed that the most severe lesions had developed in the central nervous system and were manifested in the form of serous, hemorrhagic lymphocytic meningo-encephalitis. 1"he Cowdry type A intranuclear inclusion bodies characteristic of Rubarth's disease were present in various organs, in the endothelial cells of blood vessels and sinusoids as well as in the parenchymal cells of the liver,in every case. The brain lesions were similar to those seen.in foxed which died of encephalitis or occasionally in dogs which died of canine hepatitis. The results of serological tests and the timing of the outbreak both were indicative of a transmission of the Infection from dingo puppies to the bear cubs which were housed together in the nursery, 1 East German, 7 Western 1/1 references. Abstract: [German article, author's German summary modified] Dogs were sub- ected to Infection with Rubarth's disease and those 21 animals which sur- i period after which their vived the disease were observed for a prolonged organs were subjected to pathological anatomical and histological investiga- tions. The organs of 102 additional exsanguinated dogs were also examined the infectious hepatitis which had been infected and hyperimmunized with mper virus. The autopsy reports of the Veterinary Medical Uni- and the diste versity were also checked for evidences of liver and kidney damage. These nfectious hepatitis manifold studies failed to provide evidence that the acute I would be followed by a chronic form or by liver cirrhosis. Among the dogs which survived infectious hepatitis, chronic cholecystitis was observed in many cases. Some views on the possible pathomechaniBm are presented. In the kidney of some of the dogs which survived infectious hepatitis, a sub-' acute or chronic interstitial nephritis of varying severity could be observed, in agreement with some literature data. The hens showed erythropenia with normal serum levels of calcium and phosphorus. After s' 'udying the skeletons, se- veral forms of the disease were sh6-Am to be present. Hyperostosis, sclerosis, osteoclasis, porous oDtoodystrophia fibrosa were found. The course of the disease is- des~cribed. It was characteristic that almost the whole sk6letal system of the animal, bone marrow as well as peri- osteum were involved. Hyperpla4~a- of the parathyroid was often shown to be present. The rabbits were inoculated with RNA-tannin complex adsorbed on their own erythrocytes. No RNA antibodies could be detected in the sera of the inoculated rabbits by passive agglutination of coated erythro- cytes and gel Precipitation. ABSTITbICT: The authors give dia-rams (Fig.1) to show the various 0 methods tried in the USSR and abroad f or the ext-ernal desulphurization of pi- iron with soda, calcium carbide Z' or other solid reagents. They suggest that their C07'1 parative neGlect is due mainly to their relative inefficiency and low productivity. The French IRSID method they criticize on the additional ~Proundls that it v~-ould be difficult to effect on a large scale, that special a-ri-an~,cments v-..ould be required for trapping the 1iiiie dust produced, 'that the finely divided reaSent would be difficult to obtain and that nitro-en is not availa-ile at many works.
