ABSTRACT: A method of hydrometallurgical recover,, of Ni from the lean
ores of the Rumanian People's Republic (0. 2 - 0. 3% Ni) is described.
The ammonia method of recovering Ni from its ores ( ' serpentines)
resolves itself to reduction by heat of the finely ground serpentine
at 620-6500 and leaching by an ammonia solution of the following
composition: 15016 NH 6*5% (NH ) CO the reaction being:
NiO + 2 NH4 OH + (MR') CO Vi (N~?'), + 3 H,O
4 = 3 3
~.Transl Ed. Note: The original Russian typesetting of this equation
appears inconsistent), Leaching is performed at room tempera-
ture and continues for eight 1-ours with constant agitation. The re-
sultant solutions contain the h1g2+ and Niz _i. cations in the form
of ammonia complexes; Mg may ~,lso be recovered in processing

Hydrometallurgical. Recovery of Nickel (cont.)
I ton of serpentine yields 0. 8 - 1. 1 kg Ni and 0. 5 - 0. 54 kg MgO
The ammonia method possesses a number of advantages: low
consumption of reagents, an end product with a high Ni content
(40 - 60% Ni), and a low power requirement (500 - 1000 kwh per
ton of Ni)

PERIODICAL: Revista de Chimie, 1960, Vol. 11, No. 5, pp. 298 - 299
TEXT: The first polymerization of acetaldehyde has been performed by M.
Letort. The Japanese researchers J. Furukawa and T. Saegusa recently presented
a polymerization method at high temperatures. Subject article presents the re-
sults of the polymerization of acetaldehyde with catalyzers other than alumina
according to P.A. Bovey and R.C. Wands. The authors studied the polymerization
of acetaldehyde under the catalytic action of silicium-alumina and thorium oxide.
The silicium-alumina had a 90% content of s1licium and 10% of alumina, pH = 6,
spherical granules, 3 mm in diameter. The thorium oxide was pre-Dared by calcin-
ing thorium nitrate at 6000C. Polymers of different molecular weight were ob-
tained in function of the nature of the catalyzer used. Silicium-alumina and
thorium nitrate catalyzed the reaction of the acetaldehyde polymerization, sup-

acetone and methylethylcetone (butanone). The induction period of the polymeri-
zation reaction has been reduced to 3 - 4 h. The polymerization is especially
influenced by the introduction speed of the acetaldehyde vapors. The polymeri-
zation of liquid acetaldehyde led to the production of only liquid polymers. The
polymer is characterized by the determination of the molecular'weight in methyl-
ethyleetone (butanone) at 280C. The viscosity_was determined and the molecular
weight computed by the formula: [VI = 3.36,10 4~0.65. There Is 1 table.

.A b-, t r -i c t; Description of the results of studies of the
reaction mechanism of xanthogenation of alkali cellulose.
Determinations were made of changes in the extent of
esterification. of cellulose xanthate with lapse of time, in
particular depending upon addition of NaOH solution to the
reaction system, effected after certain lengths of time
following the beginning of the reaction. To determine the
degree of esterification -- the value of A , use was made of
the acidimetric method of Kruger. The data obtained hdve
shown that the advantage of xanthogenation of alkali cellu-
lose with an emulsion, resides essentially in an acceleration

TITLE: Polyesters With Pyridine Nucleus in the Macromo-
lecular Catena

ABSTRACT: The production of pojyftste~: fibers based on
terephthalate polyethylenef-i-srap dly increasing
due to the remarkable properties of this type of
synthetic fiber in spite of the fact that these
fibern also have many disadvantages. Pertinent V/
literature refers to only one patent with poly-
estera of heterocyclic pyridine and this does not
indicate the synthesis and properties of the
polymers obtained. The results obtained by ex-
periments showed that the presence of the pyri-
dine nucleus in the macromolecular polyesters re-
duced their crystallinity, a fact emphasized by
the decrease of their melting temperature.
