determine the value of active immunization in reducing the incidence of purulent
skin diseases. Workers In a similar factory served as the control. Some 600 per-

TEXTs In this letter to the editors the authors state that they succeeded
in polymerizing glycidyl esters of unsaturated acids, containing, apart from
the double bond, also a glycide group which is capable of polymerizing if
the-(-oxide cycle is opened. When polymerizing glycidyl methacrylate in
the presence of BF 3 alcoholate and hydroquinonep a linear polymer, soluble
in alcohol, dioxan, and acetone was obtained which contains no glycide
group. The intrinsic viscosity of -the polymer was 0-057, the molecular
weight 818. Clycidyl acrylate was polymerized In a similar way. The

TITLE: Synthesis and Properties of Methylmethacrylate
Dimethacrylamidodimethyl Ether Copolymers

TEXT: Copolymers of methylmethacrylate with dimethacrylamidodimethyl
ether were-synthesized and their mechanical properties examined. A de-
tailed description in the experimental part explains the syn'thesis of
these copolymers. The effect of the content of dimethacrylamidodimethyl
ether in copolymers containing methylmethacrylate on tensile strength,
elongation, specific viscosity, and modulus of elasticity at 200C has
been studied. Results show that the tensile strength of copolymers in-
creases when adding 4-5 mole,% dimethacrylamidodimethyl ether. If this
amount is further increased, a sharp decrease in strength occurs. Visco-
sity first increases with an addition of dimethacrylamidodimethyl ether,
reaches a maximum, and declines again with a further addition,while the

modulus of elasticity remains unaffected. Fig.2 shows the vitrification
temperature of polym4thylmethaerylate copolymers with decamethylglycol-
dimethacrylate, ethylbutylpropanenedioldimethacrylate, ally1methacrylate,
and dimethylpropanenediodirnethacrylate according to data by S. Loshaek
(Ref.2), B. N. Rutovskiy and A. M. Shur (Ref-5), and with dimethacryl-
amidodimethyl ether as a function of the components of copolymerization. x
Results show that the vitrification temperature of these copolymers in-
creases with a diolefin content of up to 5~. The vitrification tempera-
ture was determined according to A. I. Marey (Ref-11). Professor

TITLE: Formation conditions and structure of dimers obtained by the
bulk polymerization of chloroprene

TEXT: The polymerization of chloroprene in the presence of peroxides or
tetraalkyl Thiuram diaulfide with sulfur at 50 - 550c, and the.effect of
individual factors on the formation of dimers, -were studied. Theformation
rate and the dimer-to-polymer ratio increase when the polymerization
tpmperature rises. Dimers are the main products obtained in the presence
of inhibitors. Increasing the degree of polymerization to >70% brings
down the relative amount of the resulting dimers to 4 - 5%. The high
molecular polymerization of chloroprene in the presence of tetramethy~
thiuram disulfide yielded dimers, of which 65% have the structure of
1,5-dichlorocyclooeta-1 -diene, whilst 12% were 4-(I-chlorovinyl)-l-
,5
chlorocyclohexene. The structure was determined by oxidation, ozonolysia,
and hydrogenation at 200C in the presence of platinum black,'ylelding a

product with the physioochemical constants of'cyclooctane. The structure
of the latter was confirmed by oxidation with nitric acid yielding
suberic acid. The prevailing formation of 6-membered dimers wan explained
by the stabilization of the primary 8-membered cyclic compl6x owing to
an increase in viscosity of the medium during polymer formation, and owing
to the absence of catalytic inhibitors. There are 4 figures.

ABSTRACT: In this paper a detailed description is presented of the
technique of measuring the expansion coefficients of salt
crystals according to the flotation method. The application
of floaters for the determination of the temperature coefficient
of the density P of a fluid is suggested. This method is
based upon the measurement of the temperature difference of
the flotation of two floaters kept in the fluid to be inves-
tigateo and in a control fluid, the P of which is known4
The room temperature expansion coefficients Yk of NaCl, KCI,
KBr, LiF were measured. The reproducibility of the measurements
is as high as 0#5 - 1%. This is in accordance with the
estimation of the accuracy of this method presented by
Card 1/2 Konstantinov and Ryskin in reference 1. The measured values
