ABSTRACT: The transition in the Soviet tractor industry from gasoline wiginess to
diesel engines has prompted the need for research into possible metals and alloys to
be used in bearinga.~JLikely substitutes for.bronze be 1~have been aluminum-baaed'

aluminum-based alloys for this use are citedq including high fatigue streng-tht good
corrosion resistance, favorable thermal propertiesp high resistance to wearj eta. A
brief history of the development of the use.of aluminum in hewry-duiq bearinv in,
given. The work of M. X. MLrushchov is cited &a being very proainent in the field.
A comprehensive eummary of the application of antifriotimml alloys in crankohaft
bearings for diesel tractor engines is given as well as a large: tabulation showing the

ABSTRACT: The results are described of investigation of biturcn
obtained by oxidation of heavy fractions of semi-coking
tars of Kashiria shale under works c8nditions. The
residual tar fraction, boiling at 320 C,was subjected to
oxidation in air at 170 to 180 C. Depending on the,
duration of the oxidation, various bitumen grades were
obtained, the characteristics of which are. entered in
Table 1, P-156. It is concluded that with increasing
duration of the oxidation of the originaLraw materials
an accumulation takes place of hydrogenated and of.the,
condensed asphaltene structures; the quantity is reduced
of oils which, in the given case, become more saturated,
compensating approximately the constancy of the relative

difftsion of light strength of mirror illuminators and of the illumination created
by nonsymmetrical illuminating instruments. Designs were sutnitted of equipment
for investigating the characteristics of rd=or illi3minators, the diff'using prop-
erties of protective glass, the level of brj2liancy, and the distrltdtion of
temperature in illuminating devices of various types. The results Vere given of
a check of the operation of il-luminating devices on the streets of Moscow, and a
comparative eccncmic evaluation was given of equipment with r-irror illumination
and that supplying direct and diffused light.

The humus substances are the most characteristic conpounds
of the organic part of the soil. Tlicy vere often investigarted.
Since, however, many problems connected with them are com-

to the conditions of the soil formation, a number of problems
concerning their nature and structure ia no,. explained, In
the present paper results are given of,a coi~pai,-ativc inventi-

are given for humic acids of blwk earth and stronply podzol

detected: O-H and C-H in aromatic groups (C-H bonds were ab-

a weak intensity band of C-H in C113 groups, C-D in carboxyl

Abstract There is in the spectra of humic acids of theistrongly pod-

referred to aromatic groups with lateral alifatic substitutes.
In the cases of humic acids f rom Aspergillus ffirser~ a band
of 8.91% is observed; this band is characteristic Of OXj7gen
containing aromatic compounds., in which the 0 atom is direc-
tly connected with the C atom of the'aromatic nucleus (Bre-
