case of a late relapse of typhus 34 years after the prima-
ry disease PRZEGL.LEK. 1956,12/5(149-151)
The case concerns a man hospitalized in 1955 in Szczecin with a tentative diagnosis
of typhoid fever. The onset of the disease was abrupt with chills, severe headache
and high fever which lasted 16 days. No skin rash was noted. The patient gave evi-
dence of a past typhus infection during the 1921 epidemic in Russia. Serological
tests: Weil-Felix reactim, agglutination of Rickettsia prowazeki and complement
fixation gave positive resu s thus identifying the present illness as typhus fever.
In view of the absence of body and head lice in the environment of the patient, the
esent. disease to Interpreted as a late recrudescence of the primary typhus in-

Abstract. [Author's Hungarian summary] Elysion anaesthesia was used In
V5-03urgical operations. To eliminate the postoperative symptoms of
psychomotor excitation, premedication with levopromazine-promethazine was
found to be the most effective. With such preparation, there were no
pronounced excitation cases in the phase of awakening. Should restless-
ness appear. this can Immediately be controlled with i.v. injection of
