ABSTRACT: The effect of plastic deformation (rolling with degrees of deformation amounting
to 3, 10 and 40% and aging(at 480*C for 2, 10, 30 and 100 hr) on the fine structure (the kinetics
of decomposition of the 0-phase. dispersity and the distribution of the 0~-phase) of TSG titanium!
alloy (3.22% Al, 3.42% Mo, 7.80% V, 10. 80% Cr, Q. 18% Fe, 0. 03% C, 0. 01% Si, 0. 07%. 020
0. 0U% N20 with Ti as the remainder) was investigated by means regular and electron
microscopy and measurements of hardness and tensile strength. It is shown that plastic de-
formation accelerates the decomposition of the metastable $-phase and results in a more fine-

-grained and uniform structure devoid of undecomposed boundary-layer and intrag-ranular re-
sidues of the 0-phase, which, together with the high degree of dispersity of the particles
of the segregating a-phase, leads to a general improvement in mechanical properties.
Quenching the alloy from NOT following 3% deformation results in polygonization; following
10% deformation, in partial recrystallization; and following 40% deformation, in total recrys-
tallization of the structure. In this last case, since the decomposition of the recrystallized
f~-phase occurs slowly, a marked change in the alloy's hardness is observed only after 100 hr
of aging at 4800C. This may be a cause of the heterogeneity of the alloy's properties follow-
ing its hardening by heat treatment. The highest hardening rates were observed for the spe-
cimens subjected to 3 and 10% deformation prior to their quenching, which indicates that an
incompletely recrystallized structure is favorable to the increase in mechanical strength
following aging. OrIg. art. has: 7 figures. 3 tables.

:ABSTRACT: Since the laws governing the elastic anisotropy of crys-
:tals over a wide temperature range are still unknown, the authors
1made a systematic analysis of theirearlier findings on the tempera-,

These results were c8mpared with data obtained by others,' both

has shown that the elastic anisotropy of"the static lattice at OOK

of the metallic ion.' The existing theory of Leibfried and Hahn
,(Zsi. Phys. 150, 497, 1958) does not explain the experimentally ob-

are found to deviate from it. In particular, the tl)eory yields iso-
thermal elastic constants, while the experiments yield adiabatic con-
!stants. The difference between these constants increases with in-
creasing temperature, but is comparable with the me4surelnent errors.
~.Ideas are ad'vanced conq'erning the causes of the disgrepancy. Since

is suggested '-hat insufficient account was taken by the authors of
ithe theory of the temperature dependence of the elastic constants

'21"L'I.E': Moasurement of the spin correlation coefficient for
pp-scattering at 660 Mev
Zhurnal eksperimentallnoy i teore~icheskoy fiziki, v. 42,
no. 5, 1962, 1209-1211
TEXT: The spin correlation coefficient Ckp was measured "or elastic
proton-proton scattering at an angle of 900, the 660-Mev protons being
Scattered 3r. a polyethylene target (2ig. 1). T~e scattered protons and the
recoil protons were recorded by coincidences in the telescopes T 1 and T2*
'2he solid &.ngle of the two telescopes was 0.7-13-3 steradion. The
a.a,plitude of" elastic pp-scattering can be represented in the form
'/[ - GE -~- P (a,n) (aln) -- -, (a, --- cr,) n --- 6 (a, K) ('j2K) ~ P (a, P) (cr,P)

tial cross section of elastic pp-scattering (cf. Dehme, Phys. Rev. 98,
147, 1955). The proton. spin states after scattering were determined with
the aid of two Identical carbon targets. The telescope T 5ana T4 were in
anticoincidence with the telescopesTi and T2- The direction of motion of
the protons before and after scattering from carbon target3 was determined
with 6as discharge chambers. Results: The correlation asymmetry factor
is C-054 + 0.041, Ckp(900) - 0.22 + 0.18. This work is part of an
ex:,urimental program for determining the scattering amplitudes and for
conducting a phase shift analysi3. There are 2 figures.
