ABSTRACT: A study of the structure of sintered aluminum der material by ion
bombardment is of practical significance for the investigation or materials obtainek
by means of powder metallurgy.X The method is suggested for use for manufacturing
samples prior to electroi2-mic~oscopic-investigations. Analysis of micropbotographs
shows that the base of SAP material is a cellular grid consisting, or oxide partic!iW-
bounded by aluminum poeudograins. Orig. art. has: 8 figures. (Ba!3ed on author's

TITLE: Results of -the activity Jn the tire industry
PERIODICAL: Kauchuk I rezina, no. 1, 1963, 38 , 41
T E Xf The' Soviet 3even-Year PJan for 1959 - 65 calls for a stepped-up
program of the tirQ Jndustry: creating a stable raw material base, developing the
pace of tire production, Improving the quality of the finished product. Special
emphasis Is placed on the production of tires for agricultural machines, automo-.
-biles, motorcyc" 'e5 and motoi-rollers. All. the tire plants, excepting the new ones
at Krasnoyarsk, Baku and Dnepropetrovsk, surpassed the production plan for the
first three yearr,. Over 100 million rubles were spent in the construction and
renovation of tii~n plants within the 1959 61 period. More plants are -foreseen
for the near future. Natural rubber (DR) primarily used as the raw material,
since 720% of all the raw material, going for truck, bus and tractor tires, Is Nit.
The tire industry user, oil-filled buturliene-styrerie rubber of regulated polymeri-
zation on a colophony emulsifier to a greater extent, thus reducing the use of

appear on the market by 1965 and Bodium-bu Wiene rubber will be discontinized.

Abstract : Hungry mle rats weighing 150-3009 were injected within
2-7 days 1-5m9 cortisone (1) or DCC (II) intramiscularly.
Control animals received 0.9% Nan solution, or apricot

of hormones. In injectia-ig 1, the N of urine increased
considerably, with II it was lower than in thse control
animals, but higher than in the starving rats, which did

weight than control animals and less than the ones injec-

TITLE: Electron transfer in reactions of nitroso7compounds
SOURCE: AN SSSR. Doklady, v. 167, no. 5, 1966, 1083-1086
TOPIC TAGS: organic nitroso compound, free radical, EPR spectrum, electron donor
ABSTRACT: In a continuation of the study of electron transfer processes in donor-acceptor
transformations of nitroso compounds, the following systems consisting of trifluoronitro-
somethane7and typical nucleophilic compounds were analyzed: (A) CF NO + amines \O/
((C2H5) 3N; C5H5N; C H NH2' C H NHCH3; C6H,5N(CH3) 2); (B) CF3NO + C6115SH; (C) CF3NO +
(isO-C4H9O)3P; (D) 6%~O V1142; R = ((CH3)2, (COQ2); (E) CF3NO + (CH3)2CCINO, and
also (F~ CF3NO + C2H5ONO; (G) CF3NO + aldehydes (CH3CHO, C3H7CHO, C6H'9CHO). In
these systems, in the temperature range from -160 to +20C, EpR spectra were obtained,
indicating aradical nature of transformations taking place. The signals are attributed to
ion.radica16 lof the type CF3V t~ (where D is the donor molecule) and CFPO~, and also to
0
products of secondary reactions. The formation of these ion radicals in systems A-F indicates
that oxidation-reduction processes occur during the initial stages of the reaction between the
nitroso compound and the nucleophilic molecule, the latter acting as the electron donor, The

TITLE: The White Stork in the Azerbaydzhan SSR (Belyy aist v
Azerbaijan SSR)
PERIODICAL: Priroda, 1958, Nr 9, pp 104-105 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: The Komissiya po okhrane prirody AN SSSR (Commission for the
Protection of Nature AS USSR), Moskva, V-71, Leninskiy pro-
spect, 33, is engaged in counting the number of nesting white
storks in the USSR, at the request of the International Com-
mittee for the Protection of Birds. The white stork (Cico-
nia ciconia L.) is found frequently in Azerbaydzhan. The author
participated in the banding of this species in Azerbaijan
in June 1957. It was found that there are no white shark
nests in the Astara and Lenkoran' districts at the present,
The inhabitants explain that the birds are afraid of 'the

at night. In addition to this, recent large-scale dra-inage
work in this area has decreased the number of swamps, On
the other hand, the number of white storks in the Masally
district is very high. The author gives further statistics
on the white stork, plus som-~ information on the black stork.

ABSTRACT The method of direct microscoping on membrane-ultra-filters) wide?Ly
used during recent years, made it possible to obtain an idea of the
density of the population of microorganisms in water. The N3rth-We-
stern part of the Black Sea, however, has not yet been studied. The
material was collected by means of Nansen's bathometer in 1951 (146
samples from a depth of from o - 98 m were taken). The niunter of
microorganisms differs in this area between 14.ooo and 495,ooo per
m. Their number is greatest in depths of from o - 25 m. Also the
average values of biomass for the strata of from o - 25, -) - 5o,
o - loo and o - 2oo m prove the compact character of the main mass
of microorganisms with the upper 5trata of from 25 - 5o M as well
as the decrease of micro-population with growing depth. The bio-nass
of the phytoplankton in thestrata of from o - 5o and o - 2oo of the
whole Black Sea amounts to 3,6 - 4,8 million tons respectively, the

strata. Table 1. shovis the biomass per 1 rr3 in the stra-",_-a of fcorr;
o - lo m. Starting the averaf~_- biomass of the sulphurated hydro',:;er,
zone and from the volume of the depth of sulphurated hydrogen ve can
assume a total araount of 17,2 million tons of microorgapi-sms for this
area. This means that microorganisms form about 2o - 25 O/o of tile
total living substance. The biomass of the microorganism-s in the
oxygen zone amounts to about one fourth of the biomass of the phyto-
plankton. Comparison of the number as well as of the bi,)maqs of the
microorganisms in various seas shows that the Black Sea does not
range behind the central and Southern Caspian Sea as regards the den-
sity of micro-population and that it is greater than that of a nur-ber
of other water. (2 illustrations, 2 tables and 19 Slavic reference5).
